Structure as a design gesture

Category: Nautical Interiors
Location:
Architect: Cristiano Gatto Design

The MyOrion Dining Table project originates from a collaboration with Cristiano Gatto Design Studio and is set within the context of high-end nautical interiors, where aesthetics, engineering, and performance coexist in a highly sophisticated balance. Conceived as a dining table for a fifty-meter yacht, it represents a synthesis of design and function, where every formal choice responds to precise technical requirements related to life on board.

The structure becomes the true design gesture: a base in AISI 316 steel, engineered to be fixed directly to the hull, ensures maximum stability even under navigation conditions. All anchoring systems are developed in-house, designed to integrate seamlessly into the structure without compromising the aesthetic clarity of the project. The result is a solid, secure, and visually light element, capable of engaging with its surroundings without imposing itself.

The perimeter frame, upholstered in nubuck, introduces a sensory and sophisticated dimension. The leather, selected by the architects for its softness and material depth, undergoes a special next-generation treatment: water-repellent, stain-resistant, and antibacterial, vegan-based, ensuring durability in a marine environment while preserving its tactile and visual quality.

The core of the project is the tabletop, characterized by a structural aluminum grid, crafted from a single sheet without joints. Within this framework, Makassar ebony surfaces are inlaid, one of the most precious wood species, chosen for its deep grain and strong visual impact.

The high-gloss finish of the ebony is achieved through an eight-coat lacquering process, carried out through successive stages of application, drying, and sanding, resulting in a perfectly mirror-like, deep, and three-dimensional surface. This process not only enhances the natural beauty of the wood but also ensures durability and stability over time, essential qualities in a nautical environment.

The integration of different materials within the tabletop, leather, aluminum, and ebony requires absolute control over tolerances and craftsmanship. The metal components, finished in a pewter tone, complete the project by adding a technical and contemporary character, in perfect balance with the refinement of the surfaces.

MyOrion Dining Table is an object that goes beyond function: it is an architectural element, conceived to express the excellence of the yachting environment through precision, material, and detail.
